Who is Dr Ronan McSorley?

“I am a certified Compassionate Inquiry® Practitioner, trained in Dr Gabor Maté's method. I have completed the Compassionate Inquiry® professional training and mentorship, enabling me to offer this innovative, trauma-informed approach to healing. Originally from the north of Ireland, I am now based in Philadelphia, USA.

I have dedicated over twenty years to the field of mental health, supporting individuals across the lifespan and helping people navigate a wide range of psychological and emotional challenges. I spent ten years working as a Clinical Psychologist in England, both in the NHS and in private practice. During this time, my roles spanned diverse settings, including child and adolescent mental health services, adult community teams, and older adult care. I’ve provided support in inpatient units, assisted people experiencing acute psychological distress, and contributed to early intervention teams for psychosis. Additionally, I’ve been involved in neuropsychology services, learning disability teams, and dementia care. Throughout my career, I’ve conducted research, collaborated with multi-disciplinary teams, and delivered psychological therapy.”

Who does Dr Ronan McSorley work with?

“I work with clients worldwide via Zoom and welcome people of all genders, sexual orientations, races, cultures, ethnicities, nationalities, religions and socioeconomic backgrounds. I offer an LGBTQ+ affirmative space. I recognise that gender is a spectrum and trans people exist.

I use Compassionate Inquiry® to help people navigate experiences of profound sadness, deep despair, emotional turbulence, overwhelming fear, obsessive thinking and extreme mood swings.

Many of the people who come to see me are seeking to understand and integrate past experiences, feeling intense anger about what is happening in the world or searching for greater meaning and purpose in their lives. Sometimes people come to me for reasons that are difficult to put into words but involve deep existential themes they need to explore.

I have experience helping those who have been harmed as a result of psychiatric treatment or have not found traditional therapeutic approaches helpful.”

How does Dr Ronan McSorley work?

“I take a non-diagnostic, non-pharmacological approach to my work. This means I won’t diagnose you, prescribe medication, or follow standardized therapy protocols. Instead, I focus on helping you navigate the specific circumstances and contexts that cause you distress so that you can find your unique path to healing.

Using Compassionate Inquiry®, I will help you explore the root causes of your emotional and physical distress by tuning into your body and mind. Through gentle questioning and reflective dialogue, I will guide you in uncovering hidden emotions, past experiences, and unprocessed trauma that may be influencing your present state. By bringing awareness to these deeper layers, the process will create space for healing, helping you release old patterns and develop a greater sense of self-awareness, safety, and emotional freedom.

Compassionate Inquiry® is not clinical or medical treatment but a space for deep self-exploration. It fosters insight and curiosity, allowing you to connect with your true self. While the process can be challenging, it is ultimately deeply rewarding, with many describing it as a journey of rediscovery and coming home to themselves.”
